Trending Now: Buffalo Check—How to Work the Fall Fashion Trend Into Your Wardrobe Right Now

As the snow falls around us in New York City, I can’t help but wish for slightly warmer fall days. But there's a fashion trend that has been emerging on the fall 2014 runways this Fashion Week that's making me crave cozy clothes, and that's buffalo check—a look that immediately reminds me of falling leaves, crisp fall weather, and hot apple cider.

Hats off to Derek Lam—I have been waiting or buffalo check to catch on since he showed his spring collection six months ago. There’s something irresistible about buffalo check. It’s not quite as intense as full-on plaid (though I grew up in a very plaid family, so I definitely appreciate a tartan!) but a little more exciting than a solid. See below for three designers’ takes on the autumn staple.

Rag-and-Bone-FP20518973
Rag & Bone kept it traditional with hunter green and white, in pieces ranging from pencil skirts to jackets. This pullover jacket is cozy enough to throw over anything but chic enough to keep you from feeling like a lumberjack while doing it!

Nonoo-FP20518923
NoNoo used the idea of the pattern in an awesome open-woven pencil skirt. Giving the illusion of a buffalo check, this skirt remains dressy enough to wear from the office to a cocktail party.

Preen-10

Preen is one of the all-time greats when it comes to head-to-toe prints. Whether you go all-out, like these looks, or piece everything together with solids or neutrals, attention must be paid to the beautiful silhouettes of these looks and the color that pops from them.
