The 5 Romantic Comedies Every Woman Should Consider Seeing

Screenwriter Hallie Meyers-Shyer share her top pciks--they'll make you believe in love again. (And add to your Netflix queue Immediately!)

Twentieth Century(1934)
The Gist: Down-on-his luck Broadway director Oscar Jaffe tries to win back his former-engenue Lily Garland, now a Hollywood star, when chance reunites them on the same train.
Meyers-Shayer Says: "There are so many forces of comedic geniuses at work in this great screwball romantic comedy, It's crazy--and I love that most of the story unfolds on a train ride."

Hannah and Her Sisters(1986)
The Gist:  A dramedy about the romantic escapades of three sisters as they unfold from one Thanksgiving to the next.
Meyers-Shayer Says: "Woody Allen expertly weaves together the intertwined lives and relationships of these complicated characters. I'm obsessed with this movie!"

The philadelphia Story(1940)
The Gist: Philadelphia socialite Tracy Lord's wedding is turned upside down when her ex-husband, Dexter, and a gossip reporter show up uninvited.
Meyers-Shayer Says: "Jimmy Stewart won the Oscar for his part in this classic love triangle. Romantic comedies don't get much better than this."

Bridget Jone's Dairy(2001)
The Gist: British everygirl Bridget Jones has a New Year's resolution: Take control of her weight, her job, an, of course, her love life.
Meyers-Shayer Says: "Two words. [Hugh Grant's] Daniel Cleaver."

The Apartment(1960)
The Gist: Eager-to-please C.C.  Baxter loans his Central Park West apartment to execs at his firm for their adulterous trysts--complications arise when he starts things up with his boss's latest fling.
Meyers-Shayer Says: "Prbably my favorite movie of all time. It's a dark concept handled with a light touch--a perfect movie."

George Clooney and Amal Alamuddin Are Engaged, Sources Confirm

Is George Clooney, posterchild for bachelorhood, considering marriage?
According to People.com, Clooney and his girlfriend, British attorney Amal alamuddin, were spotted leaving Nobu on Thursday night when Alamuddin allegedly flashed some serious bling on THAT finger and now engagement rumors are flying. Per People.com, sources say the two were spotted celebrating their engagement on Wednesday night, where witnessed reportedly saw Alamuddin's "huge ring". Clooney, who is divorced, has been notoriously vocal about never marrying again so if the engagement rumors are true, it would be quite the shocker.

Are pgs flying? Has hell frozen over? I NEVER thought I'd type these words, but sources have confirmed to both Us Weekly and People that George Clooney is engaged to Amal Alamuddin.
"George and Amal are trying to keep things very low-key but they also aren't really trying to hide this, it doesn't seem. I think it's like they want the people they love to know that this is real, that they plan on beingtogether forever," a source told People.
Us is reporting that "the twosome were spotted dining together at Craig's restaurant in West Hollywood--and, according to one onlooker 'they were toasting the engagement'. The infamous Hollywood bachelor even told a fellow diner that they were engaged, the witness claims."

Seth Meyers Will Host The Emmy Award

This just in: Everyone's favorite dimpled late-night host, Mr. Seth Meyers, will be your charming host for the 66th Primetime Emmy Awards.

NBC announced the news late last night. The ceremony will take place and air Monday, August 25, which feels a little earlier than usual.
Meyers is no stranger to this game, having hosted the ESPYs on multiple occasions (that's why you watched the ESPYs, right?). He's also an honoree of the Time 100 this year--just like Beyonce.
And speaking of trophies for this year's great TV, we'll be kicking off our annual Obsessed TV awards in just a few weeks--so start getting your thoughts on the season ready!

As You Can See, Nicki Minaj Is Done With Smiling

The gals over on lipstick already got Nicki Minaj to spill about her newly toned-down look--a change I'm a fan of, by the way, though I will miss our Minaj wig mood ring.
But if there's one thing I miss--cue me singing "Dear Old NIcki"--it's the rapper's pretty smile. She's  seriously done with smiling, as we've had ample chances to discover over the past several days.
Here she is at the MTV Movie Awards:

And at Monday's premiere of The Other Woman:

See, this is where I draw the line. Smugging in a group photo where everyone else is grinning? That's just awkward. Like, if this was a pic of you and your friends from the bar last night, you'd really be wondering what was up with one of your friend's face. I get that brand and image are everything, but this doesn't compute in ral-life settings.
And by the way, yes, I am pointing this out while completely agreeing with Petra's rant on men telling women to smile. I'm not saying Minaj would be prettier if she smiled: I'm saying, girl to girl, I know when a lady's going for a look by consciously choosing to put over being natural. And if we all agree to look more human in pics, we can--together--eradicate duck-face for good!
So, you know, I'm fine with putting the Roman alter ego to bed, but let's not count those pearly whites out yet, Nic. After all, even Little Orphan Annie go that a smile is the foundation of low-maintenance beauty. (Her style wasn't exactly high-concept either, at least not pre-Warbucks.)

A Sneak Peek of Lorde's MAC Colletion Is Here, and It's Amazing

MAC released a photo promoting Lorde's upcoming limited-edition makeup collection (hitting the Web and select stores this summer), and, as predicted, it's pretty fierce.

On her lips, she wears deep plum shade called Pure Heroine, and on her eyes, Penultimate Eye Liner in RapidBlack--both intense and dramatic and exactly what you'd expect from this dark-lipstick lover.

Look for them in the North America starting June 5 and in international stores in July. In the meantime, remind yourself how bad@ss this girl is in the beauty and self-esteem departments by checking out her stance on airbrushing her pimples, admiring her refusal to keratin-away her curls, and going over these 11 reasons you should fall in deep, deep love with the "Royals" singer.

Come See Beyonce on the Cover of Time's Most Influential People Issue

Forget your various Zuckerbergs and Obamas--Beyonce is on the cover of Time's 100 Most Influential People list this year, looking striped-down and all-powerful.

You know you've made it when Sheryl Sandber, who did Bey's blurb, is writing about you in magazines.
And as someone who listens to the "we teach girls to shrink themselves" passage in "Flawless" on a daily basis, I am fully behind this cover choice. (BTW, Beyonce's husband, Jay Z, was one of the mag's Time 100 cover subjects last year.)
Among the other entertainment figures on the list are: Keegan Michael Key and Jordan Peele, Seth Meyers, Kerry Washington, Miley Cyrus, Robin Wright, Matthew McConaughey, Carrie Underwood, Steve McQueen, Pharrell Williams, Jenji Kohan, Amy Admas. And "Let It Go" cowriters  Robert Lopez and Kristen Anderson-Lopez (nice call, time).
The List of influencers includes a record 41 out of 100 women this year. click here to read about all of "em--the write-ups are all beautiful.

3 Amazing Shoe Collabs We Can't Wait to Wear This Season

Along with the sun finally making an appearance and the temperature finally breaking 60, a trifecta of delightfully chic collaborations is rocking our world this spring season. We just love it when cool, contemporary high-end designers partner with some of our favorite high-street brands to create fun, inspired, and more accessible pieces for us to shop--especially when the collabs involve shoes. Let's take a look.

Sophia Webster for J.Crew: You might remember adorable British shoe designer Sophia Webster, who graciously gave us tips on how to wear colorful and possibly cheekily printed statement hells at the office.
We die for her modernly feminine designs and so does J.Crew creative director (and fashion idol) Jenna Lyons. So it was a no-brainer for the American retailer and Sophia to bring their signature skill sets together for whimsical spring-ready capsule collection of 13 shoes priced between $320 and $695 a pair. The collab is available in store and online at jcrew.com.

Ostwald Helgason x Aldo Rise: During spring 2014 New York Fashion Week (that would be last September), Christina gave us the insider lowdown on the hottest designer labels to keep on your radar, and London-based Ostwald Helgason was a shoo-in on that list. (I'm still dying over that sweatshirt inspired by artist Jeff Koons--you know, the one with the possibly copulating ballon doggies.) So it was SUPER exciting to see that the label collaborated with the edgy Aldo Rise concept on not just chunky platforms and round-toe pumps but also a line of bags--including totes, cross-bodies, and this backpack that just might just convince all you rucksack-naysayers to reconsider the issue.

Shoes range from $110 to $130, and handbag styles run from $65 to $85. The collaboration is available at select Aldo stores and online at aldorise.com.

Stevan Alan x Dr.Scholl's: Hey, Birks are cool again, so why not our childhood favorite: Dr.Scholl's clogs? Especially when downtown Americana-cool desgner (and boutique proprietor) Steven Alan is involved. Plus, there's a cute blackstory. Over a chill dinner together, Steven and Dr. Scholl's creative director James Sowins dreamed up the fabulous idea to create a very edited limited-edition update on the iconic summer shoe. The women's capsule collection features two styles: a single-strap lacquer slide in black or white ($100) and a sandal in a fresh blue chambreay ($110). Simple, classic, and totally adorable. The collaboration is available in-store at Steven Alan or online at stevenalan.com.

PEOPLE's Most Beautiful Women Of The Year 2014 - Lupita Nyong'o

She may have won an Oscar for her role as the slave Patsey in Steve McQueen's 12 years a slave and recently landed a contract with Lancome Paris, but Lupita Nyong'o "never dreamed" she would be touted as "Most Beautiful" for all the world to see.

"It was exciting and just a major, major compliment," the 31-year-old says of gracing this year's cover. And especially, "I was happy for all the girls who would see me on [it] and feel a little more seen."

Born in Mexico and raised in Kenya, Nyong'o first equated beauty with what she saw on television: "Light skin and long, flowing, straight hair," she says. "Subconsciously you start to appreciate those things mmore than what you possess." Her mother, Dorothy, who is the managing director and head of PR for the Africa Cancer Foundation, "always said I was beautiful," Nyong'o adds. "And I finally believed her at some point."

As a teen, Nyong'o dyed her hair every color - except blonde - and even went as far as shaving her head bald. "It was very strange and very cold!" she says, laughing. "It was scary but I like to dare myself."

Now she says the best compliments are "when I have been called beautiful with no one drop of makeup on," she adds. "And also before I comb my hair or put on a pretty dress. Happiness is the most important thing."

For more of our exclusive interview with Nyong'o, Including personal family photos, pick up this week's issue of PEOPLE on newsstands Friday.

Sydney Style (April 22nd 2014)

Emerging talent was at the forefront at Sydney Fashion Week, with young designers taking center state and showcasing a distinctively Aussie take on style. Take a look at some of the week's most compelling shows-and be sure to check out our backstage diary for a glimpse behind the scenes.

DION LEE II

Fashion's golden boy kept it cool with his secondary collection, focusing on streetwise denim wares and a selection of essential looks delivered in bold colors and accented with precision details - who else could make a jean jacket around the waist seem like a new idea.

ROMANCE WAS BORN

Part fashion label, part haute art experiment Nadia Napreychikov and Cami James's label, Romance Was Born showcased irreverent one of a kind pieces in a gallery setting.

DISCOUNT UNIVERSE

Bloggers turned designers, Nadia Napreychikov and Cami James put forth a fearless mix of attention grabbing, embellished to the limit separates that aren't for the faint of heart.

CHRISTOPHER ESBER

Minimal yet powerful, Christopher Esber's wares eschew trend dressing in favor of a look that feels contemporary yet timeless. The subtle, mostly neutral collection managed to ad a little sex appeal via those precision cuts.

 ALICE MCCALL

McCall's ultra-feminine designs manage to be sweet without becoming cloying. Spring saw the designer looking towards transparency, girly prints and an array of sixties style silhouettes.

Beyonce's Jorts Really Shrunk in a Span of a Week, Huh? How Short Would You Wear Your Denim?

Another benefit of not one but two weekends of Coachella: a double sighting of Beyonce, who was on hand in all her music-festival fabulousness to support both hubby Jay Z and sister Solange on the stages. But obviously Queen Bey is not going to repeat looks like some people. Her hairstyle drastically changed in between the weekends, and her shorts also looked to be dramatically smaller!
Exhibit A: During weekend one, we see a tumble of gorgeous curls and shorts so short the pockets were hanging out. (Still, no visible undergarments.)

Exhibit B: One week later, Beyonce's rockin' some fringe and cutoffs so brief that her silky granny panties actually cover more surface area.

I mean, we're talking about Beyonce and coachella. So the superstar (who we've definitely seen in shorty-shorts before) wants to totally dress in the spirit of the festival, right? And when does she ever not look good? (Answer: never.)

Not So Fast, Gisele! Miranda Kerr Has a Single Out Too

While we're on the topic of supermodels moonlighting as songstresses, Miranda Kerr just released her debut single--and it's an Elvis Presley cover, no less.

"Well Gisele. I'll take you one video and up you with one king." According to the Daily Mail, the former Victoria's Secret Angel worked with Broadway star Bobby Fox for a song and video cover of "You're the Boss." While the video won't come out until May 4, promo stills tease Miranda with retro side-parted waves and wide bedroom eyes. Take a listen to the model's sexy, breathy singing voice below and try to picture what the eventual video will look like.

Miranda showed off her singing talents before in a somewhat bizarre series of iced tea commercials in Japan, but this is her first bona fide turn at the mic. Sounds like she was even surprised at the opportunity.
"They approached me and I said, 'I'm not a singer," Miranda told the Telegraph U.K. via the Daily Mail.
She had an out if she wasn't satisfied with the results though.
"I said, "If I don't like it, it's definitely not going anywhere,' and they said, 'Of course,'" Miranda explained.
Guess she was happy with the final recording since the single will be on Bobby's debut album, The Fantastic Mr. Fox, which comes out this Friday. If you need something to keep you occupied between now and the video debut on May 4, perhaps play Miranda and Bobby's duet on audio loop. (Or maybe distract yourself with Gisele Bundchen's H&M video.)

Victoria's Secret Model Alessandra Ambrosio's Coachella Beauty Looks Were Stunning

This year further cemented Coachella as the faux Fashion Week for the boho crowd, and, of course, Victoria's Secret model Alessandra Ambrosio hit that note and managed to keep everything sexy every day she attended. Here are three of the choices she made that really stood our.
This past weekend, she was all about stained lips.

But the first weekend, she showed off metallic temporary body art (looks like a Flash Tattoo from the Sophia Collection, my current obsession).

And crazy, fun nails (which we saw before in Julianne's nail roundup).

Stained lips, tats that draw attention to your skin, and keeping the loud stuff to your nails--all elements of Ambrosio's boho-with-a-sultry-twist style. Take note for next year, Coachella-goers. This is how you do the sexy hippie thing.

Watch One Direction's New Music Video for "You and I"

When it comes to opinions on One Direction, I know you guys are all divide (into two directions, one might say?). I wasn't prepared to like 1D because when it comes to boy bands, my heart will always belong to NSYNC--then they were so cute on the cover of Glamour, I love listening to "Story of My Life," and I may or may not have found myself getting outfit ideas from Harry Styles.

And now their brand-new music video for "You & I" just dropped today, and...well, I like it. Maybe it's because that gray sweater looks so dam cozy. (Remind me to ask the ladies over at Dressed where I can get it.) Maybe it's because the freeze-frame bit had some cool special effects. Anyway, watch for yourself and let me know what you think.

Victoria Beckham to Make Matching Mommy-Daughter Dresses. Squeee!

In feel-good fashion news of the day: Victoria Beckham will design a set of mommy-daughter dresses to benefit Born Free Africa, a nonprofit with the mission to end mother-to-child HIV transmission by 2015.

First off, we always give props for supporting a good cause. Secondly, how adorable are these dresses? If you have a toddler daughter (or want to borrow a friend's), love the mother-daughter twinsies thing, and secretly want to channel  the Beckhams (because why not?), now's your chance.

According to Vogue U.K., Victoria joins additional top-notch fashion names, including supermodel Gisele Bundchen and designers Daine von Furstenberg, Rachel Roy, and Stella McCartney, to benefit the cause.
(Check out some sketches from the line!) the charity is close to the working mom's heart--Victoria visited the charity in person back in February.
All the adorbs mommy-kid sets will be available on April 23 on shopbop.com. Hee's hoping Victoria Tweets a pic of herself and Harper in the matching dresses. I mean.....
