As You Can See, Nicki Minaj Is Done With Smiling

The gals over on lipstick already got Nicki Minaj to spill about her newly toned-down look--a change I'm a fan of, by the way, though I will miss our Minaj wig mood ring.
But if there's one thing I miss--cue me singing "Dear Old NIcki"--it's the rapper's pretty smile. She's  seriously done with smiling, as we've had ample chances to discover over the past several days.
Here she is at the MTV Movie Awards:

And at Monday's premiere of The Other Woman:

See, this is where I draw the line. Smugging in a group photo where everyone else is grinning? That's just awkward. Like, if this was a pic of you and your friends from the bar last night, you'd really be wondering what was up with one of your friend's face. I get that brand and image are everything, but this doesn't compute in ral-life settings.
And by the way, yes, I am pointing this out while completely agreeing with Petra's rant on men telling women to smile. I'm not saying Minaj would be prettier if she smiled: I'm saying, girl to girl, I know when a lady's going for a look by consciously choosing to put over being natural. And if we all agree to look more human in pics, we can--together--eradicate duck-face for good!
So, you know, I'm fine with putting the Roman alter ego to bed, but let's not count those pearly whites out yet, Nic. After all, even Little Orphan Annie go that a smile is the foundation of low-maintenance beauty. (Her style wasn't exactly high-concept either, at least not pre-Warbucks.)

PEOPLE's Most Beautiful Women Of The Year 2014 - Lupita Nyong'o

She may have won an Oscar for her role as the slave Patsey in Steve McQueen's 12 years a slave and recently landed a contract with Lancome Paris, but Lupita Nyong'o "never dreamed" she would be touted as "Most Beautiful" for all the world to see.

"It was exciting and just a major, major compliment," the 31-year-old says of gracing this year's cover. And especially, "I was happy for all the girls who would see me on [it] and feel a little more seen."

Born in Mexico and raised in Kenya, Nyong'o first equated beauty with what she saw on television: "Light skin and long, flowing, straight hair," she says. "Subconsciously you start to appreciate those things mmore than what you possess." Her mother, Dorothy, who is the managing director and head of PR for the Africa Cancer Foundation, "always said I was beautiful," Nyong'o adds. "And I finally believed her at some point."

As a teen, Nyong'o dyed her hair every color - except blonde - and even went as far as shaving her head bald. "It was very strange and very cold!" she says, laughing. "It was scary but I like to dare myself."

Now she says the best compliments are "when I have been called beautiful with no one drop of makeup on," she adds. "And also before I comb my hair or put on a pretty dress. Happiness is the most important thing."

For more of our exclusive interview with Nyong'o, Including personal family photos, pick up this week's issue of PEOPLE on newsstands Friday.

ROMANCE WAS BORN

Part fashion label, part haute art experiment Nadia Napreychikov and Cami James's label, Romance Was Born showcased irreverent one of a kind pieces in a gallery setting.

DISCOUNT UNIVERSE

Bloggers turned designers, Nadia Napreychikov and Cami James put forth a fearless mix of attention grabbing, embellished to the limit separates that aren't for the faint of heart.

CHRISTOPHER ESBER

Not So Fast, Gisele! Miranda Kerr Has a Single Out Too

While we're on the topic of supermodels moonlighting as songstresses, Miranda Kerr just released her debut single--and it's an Elvis Presley cover, no less.

"Well Gisele. I'll take you one video and up you with one king." According to the Daily Mail, the former Victoria's Secret Angel worked with Broadway star Bobby Fox for a song and video cover of "You're the Boss." While the video won't come out until May 4, promo stills tease Miranda with retro side-parted waves and wide bedroom eyes. Take a listen to the model's sexy, breathy singing voice below and try to picture what the eventual video will look like.

Miranda showed off her singing talents before in a somewhat bizarre series of iced tea commercials in Japan, but this is her first bona fide turn at the mic. Sounds like she was even surprised at the opportunity.
"They approached me and I said, 'I'm not a singer," Miranda told the Telegraph U.K. via the Daily Mail.
She had an out if she wasn't satisfied with the results though.
"I said, "If I don't like it, it's definitely not going anywhere,' and they said, 'Of course,'" Miranda explained.
Guess she was happy with the final recording since the single will be on Bobby's debut album, The Fantastic Mr. Fox, which comes out this Friday. If you need something to keep you occupied between now and the video debut on May 4, perhaps play Miranda and Bobby's duet on audio loop. (Or maybe distract yourself with Gisele Bundchen's H&M video.)

Watch One Direction's New Music Video for "You and I"

When it comes to opinions on One Direction, I know you guys are all divide (into two directions, one might say?). I wasn't prepared to like 1D because when it comes to boy bands, my heart will always belong to NSYNC--then they were so cute on the cover of Glamour, I love listening to "Story of My Life," and I may or may not have found myself getting outfit ideas from Harry Styles.

And now their brand-new music video for "You & I" just dropped today, and...well, I like it. Maybe it's because that gray sweater looks so dam cozy. (Remind me to ask the ladies over at Dressed where I can get it.) Maybe it's because the freeze-frame bit had some cool special effects. Anyway, watch for yourself and let me know what you think.

Victoria Beckham to Make Matching Mommy-Daughter Dresses. Squeee!

In feel-good fashion news of the day: Victoria Beckham will design a set of mommy-daughter dresses to benefit Born Free Africa, a nonprofit with the mission to end mother-to-child HIV transmission by 2015.

First off, we always give props for supporting a good cause. Secondly, how adorable are these dresses? If you have a toddler daughter (or want to borrow a friend's), love the mother-daughter twinsies thing, and secretly want to channel  the Beckhams (because why not?), now's your chance.

According to Vogue U.K., Victoria joins additional top-notch fashion names, including supermodel Gisele Bundchen and designers Daine von Furstenberg, Rachel Roy, and Stella McCartney, to benefit the cause.
(Check out some sketches from the line!) the charity is close to the working mom's heart--Victoria visited the charity in person back in February.
All the adorbs mommy-kid sets will be available on April 23 on shopbop.com. Hee's hoping Victoria Tweets a pic of herself and Harper in the matching dresses. I mean.....

Kate Middleton Rocks a Diane Von Furstenberg Wrap Dress in Australia

And before you ask, sorry, the $325 dress is sold out on Matches.com and dvf.com--you snooze, you lose. (Just kidding. Time change, I know.) But you can feast your eyes on Kate Middleton wearing her ikat-print Diane von Furstenberg Patrice wrap dress on her latest outing in Australia.

And dare I say, the Duchess of Cambridge looks HOT. Not sure what the Queen thinks of this above-the-knee, figure-flattering, off-the-rack frock, but I really like it. Plus, those of you who prefer seeing Kate in her more modern, younger, and shorter fare will be happy to see this look.

Kate's matching accessories: her fave Stuart Weitzman wedges and a simple navy clutch, OK, one more picture:

Doesn't it feel like we're interloping on their family photo sesh? I also love how Prince William is doing a total Chandler Bing camera smile. Adorable.

Kate Spade is Collaborating With Gap Kids

Another day, another exciting collab. (To catch you up: Zooey Deschannel x Tommy Hilfiger, Alexander Wang x H$M, and Mary Katrantzou x Adidas.) Well, Prince George might be particularly thrilled about the latest! collection to launch this November.
Now, no additional information has been released (like what categories the line will include, pieces, price points, etc.) so that leaves the field wide open for speculation. Are accessories in the mix? More importantly, will there be child size clothing that petite adults can squeeze into and purchase at kid clothes prices? (like that super chic band jacket from the Stella McCartney x Gap Kids collection.)  Or will they make diminutive versions of Kate Spade's whimsical, all American designs? If the last option is a go, then these three looks  from the designer's fall 2014 collection would make the cutest little girl duds:

The Leopard Coat.

This entire outfit.

All the quirky, colorful, textured bags, like the Hello Tokyo Clutch and the gold chained Chinese takeout box one. So perfect to stash toys and flash cards in, no?

Nina Dobrev Wore the Prettiest Prom Hairstyle This Weekend

And it couldn't be easier to replicate.
While promoting The Vampire Dairies at PaleyFest this weekend, the gorgeious Nina Dobrev stepped up in an ultra-feminine half-up hairstyle, topped off with a bow.

The look was quite a departure for Dobrev who normally favors a casual loose wave to more obviously pretty styles like this. It's almost like she took a page out of Ariana Grande's book, and we have to say: We love it! In fact, it was the perfect way to offset her edgy dress, which had tough-girl details like studs and a cutout.
If you're rocking a stand out ensemble like NIna's, let this serve as prime hairstyle inspiration for prom. To get a similar look, texture products are key. (Nina has a serious head of hair!) Spray damp hair all over with Bumble and Bumble's Thickening Spray, then concentrate a bit of volumizing mousse at the roots to mid-length. Flip your hair upside down while you blow-dry, roughing up your roots with your fingers as you go to get a solid amount of ligt. After your hair is dry, try tonging sections with a curling wand in alternating directions to get a bit of a bend in the hair, then rake the culs out with your fingers so it doesn't look too "done".
Afterward, you can either backcomb sections at the crown of your head, or use a texturizing spray to give a little more grip to the hair. (Try lifting hair at the crown, then blasting Redken Quick Tease Backcombing Finishing Spray at the root.) Then, grab a grosgrain ribbon and tie your bow! The texture in your hair will make sure the bow stays put, but you can add bobby pins in a matching color to lock it in place.
Follow Nina's lead and wear it with a long, daring dress, or go the Ariana Grande route and pair it with a princess  look for prom. Or, better yet? Wear it with a super-cool athletic-inspired sweatshirt and channel your inner cheerleader. Bring it on!

Naya Rivera and Big Sean Have Called It Quits

Naya Rivera and her fiance, rapper Big Sean, have broken up, Big Sean's rep confirmed in a statement to People. The couple had been together--at least publicly--for about a year, and confirmed their engagement back in October.

Referring to recent reports from Star that Big Sean cheated on the Glee actress, the rapper's rep states that "The recent rumors and accusations reported by so-called or fake sources are simply untrue. Sean wishes Naya nothing but the best and it is still his hope that they can continue to work through their issues privatel." We're sad to see this couple end, but can't deny that their song together, "sorry", now has a totally new meaning.

Happy Birthday - Marc Jacobs !

Fashion designer, groundbreaker, icon Marc Jacobs turns 51 today! But what do you get a guy who has pretty much everything? Our heartfelt love and gratitude, that's what. So to celebrate the man, the myth, the legend here are six reasons we adore Marc Jacobs.

"Who me?"  Marc Jacobs in a Commes Des Garcons dress and his boxers at the 2012 Met Gala

Because before all you ladies rocked that undies-showing-through-your-dress thing, Marc did it first.

Victoria Beckham, Marc Jacobs, and Kate Moss at the 2011 British Fashion Awards Because he has the coolest friends and gets to hang out with these ladies.

Marc Jacobs plays the buffer between Lady Gaga and Madonna backstage at his spring 2010 show. KIDDING. And THESE.

Marc Jacobs and Robert Duffy Because he dressed up like a bird for his 2011 holiday party and totally owned it.

Marc Jacobs before the Louis Vuitton spring 2014 runway show at Paris Fashion Week  Because Marc sometimes goes to work in his pajamas and carries his stuff in a dopp kit. Marc. Because he can.

Louis Vuitton spring 2013 runway show  Because there ain't runway show, like a Marc Jacobs runway show. Remember the glorious sets he created for Louis Vuitton? The mod escalators, the train pulling into the station, er, venue the tent outside the Louvre, and the freakin' carousel?! Thank goodness he has his own line--still dying over postapocalytic beach scene from spring 2014--to continue the mind-blowing fun.

Because even though his designs may be on the aspirational end of the spectrum, Marc still makes high fashion accessible to all through innovative social media, live-streaming his runway shows (everyone's FRONT ROW, yo) and casting his fall campaign via Instagram .

Let's Discuss Miranda Kerr's Highlights

Spring has sprung for Miranda Kerr, it seems. Not only is she on a sex diet, but she appears to have gotten some slightly lighter-than chunkier caramel highlght around her face (which you could see yesterday while she was promoting Reebok Skycraper shoes in Japan).

They brighten up her overall tone just a touch. It'sa very subtle shift but definitely a beachy move fro the change in season.
