Dressing for a Valentine's Day date is not the easiest thing in the world, so when I caught up with designer Jay Godfrey (who happens to be married and the father to two adorable little girls) at his New York Fashion Week show I picked his brain for a few outfit ideas.
Glamour: First, why don't you tell us about the Jay Godfrey girl?
Jay Godfrey: She's young at heart, she loves rock 'n' roll, she's an individual, and at the end of the day, she's sensual and sexual but does it in a very clean way. She loves clean lines.
Glamour: If you had to choose a piece from the collection for a girl to wear on the date, what would it be?
JG: A date? Well it probably wouldn't be one of the gowns because that would hit the guy over the head. Valentine's Day is all about the flirtation and the chase, so there's this fringe jacket that's very, very covered up, but it's still suggestive of the idea that this girl is cool and she loves fringe and leather and it can always come off very easily, which is the point of Valentine's Day.
Glamour: What do you think would be a turn-off for a guy when it comes to dressing for Valentine's Day?
JG: You know what, I think lack of confidence more than anything. Guys like confidence and they see it and, you know, it's the most alluring thing in the world.
What do you think of Jay's advice? Agree or disagree?
