Exactly How Many Dates, Relationships, and Heartbreaks You'll Have Before You Meet The One

It takes a lot of effort to get to the point where you can frolic in a meadow with the love of your life.

That is, if you're the average woman. (And, of course, I would never call any of our amazing readers "average.")
But so you know what median numbers you might expect, here's the rundown on statistics, which were commissioned in a study in conjunction with today's paperback release of The Rosie Project. Before finding the man of her dreams, a women will experience:

• Kisses with 15 men.
• Two long-term relationships.
• Heartbreak, twice.
• Seven dates, plus two blind dates and two dates with someone from the Internet.
• Four disaster dates.
• Being stood up once.
• One live-in relationship.
• Four one-night stands.
• Seven sexual partners.

How do you measure up? I've had exactly two long-term relationships, but I haven't lived with someone or been stood up yet. Also, I think I kissed at least 15 men in my first couple of years of college alone, so in that sense, I'm waaaay overdue to meet my future husband already. (Just kissed, you guys. Shut up. This is a judgment-free zone.)
Men's statistics are a little different—the average guy has 10 sexual partners, six one-night stands, and gets stood up twice—but the point of the study is that most of us go through a lot before finding a relationship that's right. For people like our recent reader who was worried she wouldn't find love again, it's kind of encouraging to know that most people have to go on a long journey to get there.
